Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi – Mount Kenya Bandas (2,900m) | 3 hrs, 10km, 650m ascent
Depart Nairobi at 8:00 am, driving through fertile farmlands to Chogoria town for lunch. Continue to the bamboo forest edge and begin trekking 10km through dense forest to the Mount Kenya Bandas. Dinner and overnight at Meru Mount Kenya Bandas.
Day 2: Bandas – Lake Ellis Campsite (3,450m) | 4 hrs, 9km, 550m ascent
After breakfast, trek at a relaxed pace toward Lake Ellis. Follow scenic ridges with views of Mugi, Ithanguni, and the Giants Billiards Table. Lunch is by the river before climbing to camp at 3,450m. Overnight camping by Lake Ellis with stunning mountain views.
Day 3: Lake Ellis – Mintos Camp (4,200m) | 4 hrs, 12km, 750m ascent
Climb steadily along a ridge, joining the main Chogoria trail at 4,100m. Enjoy spectacular views across the Gorges Valley and Northern Moorlands. After lunch at a stream crossing, continue to Mintos Camp (4,200m). In the afternoon, visit the Temple, a dramatic 150m cliff. Early dinner and overnight in preparation for summit day.
Day 4: Mintos – Point Lenana (4,985m) – Old Moses Camp (3,300m) | 8–9 hrs, 785m ascent, 1,685m descent, 19km
Begin the summit attempt at 3:00 am, trekking across alpine scree to Point Lenana in time for a spectacular African sunrise. Descend to Shipton’s Camp for breakfast, then continue via Mackinder’s Valley to Old Moses Camp (3,300m) for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Old Moses Camp – Sirimon Gate – Nairobi | 2–3 hrs descent
After breakfast, descend through montane forest to Sirimon Gate, where transport awaits. Return drive to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon.
