Climbing Nelion – Batian 7 Days
Challenge yourself with one of Africa’s most iconic alpine ascents — the Nelion and Batian Peaks of Mount Kenya (5,199m). This 7-day mountaineering expedition follows the classic MacKinder’s Route on Nelion, a 5th-class rock climb with a maximum difficulty of 5.6, offering solid granite, sunny conditions, and exceptional views. Designed for experienced climbers, it’s a rewarding and technically engaging climb that culminates with a traverse across the legendary Gate of Mists to the main summit, Batian.
This route is known for its excellent rock, good protection, and enjoyable climbing on the southeast face. Unlike the colder and more demanding North Face of Batian, Nelion offers a warmer, sunnier experience — perfect for climbers seeking both challenge and comfort. The best climbing season is December through March, when the face is snow-free and conditions are optimal.
