Detailed Itinerary
The journey begins in Naro Moru town, leading you through farmland, forest, and bamboo zones before reaching the famous Met Station Hut (3,000m). Though the Naro Moru route is considered less scenic, it offers some of the best mountain accommodations and a direct approach to the high peaks. Climbers must tackle the vertical bog and steep gravel trails, making it both adventurous and rewarding. The descent via the Sirimon Route provides stunning views of valleys, moorlands, and alpine landscapes, completing the perfect loop.
Day 1: Nairobi – Met Station Hut (3,050m) | 3–4 hrs, 10km, 400m ascent
Pick up in Nairobi and drive to Naro Moru Park Gate for lunch. Begin trekking through lush montane forest, bamboo, and giant heather zones before reaching the high-altitude moorland. Overnight at Met Station Hut, a gentle 3–4 hour trek ideal for acclimatization.
Day 2: Met Station – Mackinder’s Camp (4,300m) | 5–6 hrs, 11km, 1,200m ascent
Trek past the forest line and across the famous vertical bog. Stop for a picnic lunch at Picnic Rocks before climbing to Mackinder’s Camp. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp with spectacular views of the peaks.
Day 3: Mackinder’s – Point Lenana (4,985m) – Old Moses Camp (3,300m) | 11 hrs
Begin your summit attempt at 3:00 am. Hike across alpine scree slopes to reach Point Lenana (4,985m) in time for a breathtaking African sunrise. Descend via Shipton’s Camp (Sirimon Route) for breakfast, then continue down through Mackinder’s Valley to Old Moses Camp.
Day 4: Old Moses Camp – Sirimon Gate – Nairobi | 2–3 hrs descent
Enjoy breakfast before trekking down through montane forest to Sirimon Gate. Transfer back to Nairobi, arriving by early evening.
