Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi – Mount Kenya Bandas (2,900m) | 3 hrs, 10km, 950m ascent
Depart Nairobi in the morning, driving through agricultural country to Chogoria town for lunch. Continue by 4×4 to the edge of the bamboo forest and begin trekking to Mount Kenya Bandas for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Bandas – Lake Ellis Campsite (3,450m) | 3–4 hrs, 9km, 550m ascent
Trek through bamboo and heather zones, passing Lake Ellis with views of Mugi and Ithanguni peaks. Picnic by a stream before ascending to camp at 3,450m.
Day 3: Lake Ellis – Minto’s Camp (4,200m) | 4 hrs, 12km, 750m ascent
Climb along a ridge with stunning views of the Gorges Valley and Northern Moorlands. Arrive at Minto’s Camp near the famous Temple cliffs, a dramatic 150m drop worth exploring in the afternoon.
Day 4: Minto’s – Austrian Hut (4,700m) | 4 hrs, 7km, 500m ascent
Ascend past towering rock walls to Tooth Col and traverse to Austrian Hut, offering commanding views of the peaks. Overnight at the top hut before the summit attempt.
Day 5: Austrian Hut – Point Lenana (4,985m) – Old Moses Camp (3,300m) | 9 hrs, 20km
Begin the summit push at 5:00 am. Trek across scree and bare rock to reach Point Lenana in time for a magical African sunrise. Descend via Shipton’s Camp for breakfast, then continue through Mackinder’s Valley to Old Moses Camp.
Day 6: Old Moses Camp – Sirimon Gate – Nairobi | 2 hrs, 5km, 680m descent
Enjoy a relaxed morning before trekking down to Sirimon Gate. Transfer back to Nairobi, arriving late afternoon.
