Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi – Timau – Campsite (3,300m) | 3–4 hrs trek
Drive from Nairobi to Timau on the northern side of Mount Kenya. Begin your trek across dry alpine meadows with panoramic views of the mountain range ahead. Gentle trails lead to the first campsite for overnight.
Day 2: Timau Camp – Likii North Valley (3,900m) | 5 hrs trek
Continue climbing gradually along rolling moorlands. The open landscapes offer uninterrupted views of the peaks as you approach the Likii North Valley. Overnight camping with dramatic starry skies.
Day 3: Likii Valley – Shipton’s Camp (4,200m) | 5–6 hrs trek
A steady climb brings you closer to the high peaks, crossing scenic ridges and valleys. Arrive at Shipton’s Camp beneath the towering spires of Batian, Nelion, and Point Lenana.
Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Shipton’s Camp
Take a rest and acclimatization day with optional short hikes around the camp. This extra day prepares you for a successful summit while letting you soak in the alpine beauty.
Day 5: Summit Day – Point Lenana (4,985m) – Mintos Hut (4,300m) | 10–11 hrs trek
Begin your summit attempt at 3:00 am, climbing across scree and rocky terrain to reach Point Lenana for a magical sunrise above the clouds. Descend along the dramatic Gorges Valley via the Chogoria Route to Mintos Hut, overlooking Lake Michaelson.
Day 6: Mintos – Meru Bandas – Nairobi | 5–6 hrs trek + transfer
Descend through alpine moorlands, waterfalls, and lush forests along the Chogoria Trail. Arrive at Meru Bandas, where a vehicle awaits for transfer back to Nairobi, arriving in the evening.
